Determining Eligibility for Health Insurance Coverage

Please contact the health center directly to schedule an appointment.

Below is additional information about Medi-Cal, Covered California, and the Sliding Fee Discount Program.

Medi-Cal

The California Medical Assistance Program or Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program serving low-income individuals, including families, seniors, persons with disabilities, children in foster care, pregnant women, and childless adults with incomes below 138% of the federal poverty level. Medi-Cal enrollment is open year-round.

Medi-Cal Expansion

Beginning January 1, 2024, a new law in California will expand full-scope Medi-Cal to all low-income adults, REGARDLESS OF IMMIGRATION STATUS.

  • Full Scope Medi-Cal covers a lot more than just emergency services, it is full medical coverage that provides medical, dental, mental health, vision, specialty care and more.
  • Full Scope Medi-Cal benefits (except for nursing homes or mental health institution care) will not hurt an individual’s immigration status.
  • If you are already enrolled into Restricted/Emergency Medi-Cal, your benefits will automatically transition to full-scope benefits, no action required. If you are not enrolled, you can enroll into Restricted/Emergency benefits now to ensure a smooth transition on January 1, 2024.
  • Due to this expansion, My Health Los Angeles (MHLA) will sunset on January 31, 2024.

Medi-Cal Redeterminations

In January 2020, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE) in response to the outbreak of Covid-19. As a result, Medi-Cal beneficiaries received continuous coverage without having to submit their annual redetermination. Starting April 1, 2023, Medi-Cal will resume its normal redetermination process.

Medi-Cal Renewal Form

The Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) will mail you a letter to notify you if you will need to renew your Medi-Cal or if it will be renewed automatically. If you receive a renewal form, CCHC can help you submit your renewal by mail or online, call us at 818.630.2296 to schedule your renewal appointment.
